THE FLOPPY DRIVE CHART
To determine the total data capacity of a floppy disk, you must calculate the number of tracks and sectors.
Then multiply by 512, which is the number of Data bits per sector. To complete the calculation multiply the total by the number of heads, normally 2.
For example: Tracks X Sectors X 512 X Heads = Total Disk Space
| Size | Type | Tracks Per Inch | Tracks Per Side | Sectors Per Track | Storage |
| 5 1/4" | DSDD | 48 | 40 | 9 | 360 KB |
| 5 1/4" | DSHD | 96 | 80 | 15 | 1.2 MB |
| 3 1/2" | DSDD | 135 | 80 | 9 | 720 KB |
| 3 1/2" | DSHD | 135 | 80 | 18 | 1.44 MB |
| 3 1/2" | DSED | 135 | 80 | 36 | 2.88 MB |
